Pacific Stroke Association

MISSION & HISTORY

Since its inception, PSA’s mission has been to reduce the incidence of stroke through education and to help alleviate stroke’s devastating aftermath through support programs for stroke survivors and family caregivers.

Pacific Stroke Association is a local, community based nonprofit organization serving Santa Clara and San Mateo Counties. Tax ID #: 77-0500631.

Pacific Stroke Association, formerly Peninsula Stroke Association, was founded in 1998 by a group of community members concerned with the lack of awareness of stroke symptoms among the general public and the medical community. They also saw the lack of support services for stroke survivors and their families.

Back in 1998, the treatments available for stroke were limited, but it was clear, even back then, that recognizing the symptoms and getting to an emergency room FAST was crucial to save lives and reduce disability as a consequence of stroke.

Medical treatments, stroke awareness, and support services for stroke have improved significantly since PSA’s founding. We are proud to have taken the lead in that process and partnered with the many individuals and organizations that have transformed stroke care since that time.

With more than ten programs and services for stroke survivors, learning opportunities for clinicians at conferences and seminars, and collaborations with companies and resources at the forefront of stroke treatment, PSA remains a unique and vital resource in the Bay Area.
